Academic Prizes

Stanford Club of Germany Prizes  

 

Since 2007-2008, the Stanford Club of Germany has funded academic prizes to promote exemplary scholarship and interest in German Studies and the German Language. The focus of individual prizes may slightly differ each year. The Department of German Studies selects recipients. 

 

Academic Year 2020-2021

 

German Studies Language Award

This award goes to the undergraduate student who performs in an exemplary way with regard to academic performance (grades), attendance and participation in class, and participation in extracurricular activities related to German Studies.

German Studies Essay Awards

Each year two awards are given to students for essays written on any subject relevant to German Studies. Essays may be in English or German and ordinarily will have been submitted as part of a class assignment. There is no page limit. Essays will be judged on argument, clarity, content, and impact (broadly conceived). This year’s recipients are:

Essay Prize  -  Cybele Zhang  The 'Turning Point': Otto's politische Radikalisierung

Honors Thesis Prize   -  Sofia Maria Jose Patino-Duque 

 

Academic Year 2021 - 2022 

 

New Graduate Essay Award 

This annual award will go to the best first- or second-year graduate student essay. Essays may be in English or German and ordinarily will have been submitted as part of a class assignment in one of the German Studies graduate courses.
